Over two intense days, on the 10th and 11th December, this year’s edition of the Open Source Experience Paris brought together the European open source ecosystem to Paris. With more than 3,000 attendees, the event confirmed its position as one of the most important open source conferences in Europe.

The Community Area hosted over 20 associations and communities, while the exhibition space featured more than 60 booths representing open source projects, research initiatives, and technology companies (most of them European). The diversity of profiles—from grassroots communities to established industry players—created a vibrant and highly collaborative atmosphere.

The COGNIT Project participated as a Bronze Sponsor, which gave us the opportunity to host a dedicated booth. This presence allowed us to showcase the project’s maturity and to present concrete results from the use cases developed throughout its lifecycle.

Over the two days, more than 100 attendees stopped by our stand, engaging in meaningful and insightful conversations with our team. These discussions often focused on the importance of building a sovereign, serverless framework able to leverage the cloud-edge continuum, a topic that resonated strongly among both technical and management audiences.

In addition to the COGNIT booth, OpenNebula Systems and SUSE delivered a joint presentation about the project, which highlighted the relevance of its collaboration model and how it has led to tangible results in our four use cases:

  • Smart Cities
  • Wildfire Detection
  • Energy
  • Cybersecurity

These examples illustrate the success of this Horizon Europe project, with COGNIT evolving into a robust and practical framework, capable of orchestrating and managing different types of workloads across distributed cloud-edge environments using European open source technologies.

Overall, Open Source Experience Paris 2025 was a valuable and inspiring event, and a perfect setting for bringing the COGNIT project and disseminating its results among Europe’s top open source community and tech ecosystem. We left Paris with new connections, renewed motivation, and strong confirmation that open source remains central to Europe’s digital sovereignty and innovation.
